1940s Plasticflex Clutch Purse Brown
Popular in the 1940s due to shortages of leather and other materials commonly used for handbags.
Constructed using dark chocolate brown plastic (cellulose acetate) disks, hand woven together with coated cotton lacing over a cotton body.
Advertised as “easy to clean with a damp clothe”.
Fully lined in rayon with an interior pocket on each side.
Fastens on top with a Talon celluloid zipper using a decorative pull of the lacing and disks.
Maker: Plasticflex Manufactured by A. Appel, while the patent was filed on 9/23/41, these bags were first introduced in the Summer of 1940.
Condition: Very good. Visible wear to the coating on the lacing, most notably to the pull. No cracked disks noted on this one. Strong sturdy and ready to use. See photos. Freshly dry cleaned, arrives clean and ready to wear.
